Coming Home

This morning I’m at Eote Coffee for an Ethiopian Pour-Over.  It’s a little boujee but the clean finish after each sip keeps me coming back for more.  As of late, my life has taken some different unexpected paths that ultimately will help me grow as a human.  I won’t bore you with the details or a long story.  Suffice to say, my new circumstances has caused my inner reflection than previous folks in the road of life.

If you follow me, then you are acutely aware of my love for coffee long before it was mainstream or developed into almost a lifestyle.  Maybe it’s because of my Spanish heritage or coffee being a universal drink encountered in my world travels.  Regardless of my beginning with this drink of choice, I’m addicted to good coffee and chasing that perfect cup is always in the forefront of my mind.

I’ve had coffee prepared in many styles and a wide range of flavors, along with some pretty bad coffee “blends”.  I’m only certain of one observation about coffee in general - there is not such thing as “bad” coffee but some are better than others.  In the long haul, it’s up to you to find your perfect cup but never be afraid to explore others.  You never know what’s waiting just around the corner at the next coffee shop experience.  So many choices of beans, roasting techniques or coffee concoctions, don’t be narrow minded that your favorite cup of java will be crowned the overall winner.

For me coffee is more than just water expressed through ground beans.  It is so much more than a simple drink.   Coffee has a feeling of hope and happiness in a way that can transform the day.  I’m not speaking about the need of that first cup just after waking up that kicks your body into motion or the double espresso in the midday to starve off that impending afternoon nap.  I’m talking about activity choosing your perfect cup of coffee and enjoying the aroma, the warmth, or the finishing notes after the first sip.  The intentional action of slowing down to spend time within yourself.  Giving yourself permission to be calm, to recharge and to meet yourself in the quiet moments of that single cup.

I’ve been absent for weeks from my favorite coffee haven, Eote Coffee, because of outside sources in my life.  Being here this morning is like coming home after a long journey.  Greeted by caring and upbeat baristas, ready to create my perfect cup and truly excited about their craft.  The peaceful yet productive atmosphere of the location that almost feels like the center of the universe where all roads of life intersect.  Whether intentionally or accidentally created in this manner, Eote Coffee is perfect for me and after the first sip, I feel my body relax, my mind unravel and my soul feel refresh.

And now it’s your turn to share your favorite coffee, place or maybe a different drink.  I would love to hear your feelings about the perfect cup.  I’m still an explorer at heart and open minded to experience new places.  Just remember, it’s not just coffee… it’s a personal journey for peace.
